Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to pay senior dues?
A: Yes. Senior dues are a financial obligation all seniors must pay.

Q: How much are senior dues?
A: Senior dues are $60. If dues are not paid by January 31st of the senior year, a late fee of $15 will be added.

Q: Why do I have to pay senior dues?
A: Senior dues have been paid by FAMU DRS seniors for decades. Your senior dues go towards any events sponsored by the school for the seniors or in which the seniors are involved or participate, such as senior night, etc.

Q: What happens if I do not pay my senior dues.
A: If you do not pay your senior dues, they are added to your school account. Additionally, you will be unable to attend prom. Should you withdraw, you will be required to pay all outstanding financial obligations, including your senior dues, before transcripts and school records will be released to your new school. Your diploma, transcripts, and school records will not be released until your financial obligations, including your senior dues, are cleared.

Q: What if I am new to the school?
A: If you enroll before December 15th of your senior year, you are required to pay the full amount ($60). If you enroll after December 15th of your senior year, you are required to pay $40 for your senior dues.

Q: Does the school buy and provide our cap and gowns for graduation?
A: No. Each student/family is responsible for purchasing the cap and gown worn for graduation. Senior sponsors will set up at time to meet with HerffJones to obtain and complete the order form for the cap and gown. (The cap and gown must be purchased from Herff Jones, the FAMU DRS official graduation attire vendor.)

Q: Does the school buy and provide announcements for seniors to distribute?
A: No. Each student/family is responsible for purchasing graduation announcements. Senior sponsors will set up a time for the senior class to meet the with HerffJones representative so the senior class may choose the official graduation announcement design.

Q: What happens if my cumulative grade point average is below a 2.0?
A: If your grade point average is below a cumulative 2.0, you will not have fulfilled one of the graduation requirements set forth by the State of Florida. As such, you will receive a Certificate of Completion instead of a standard diploma. *If you are in danger of having a grade point average of less than 2.0, schedule an appointment to see a counselor IMMEDIATELY.

Q: What is a Certificate of Completion?
A: A certificate of completion means that a student met some graduation requirements; however, did not meet all of them. It verifies school attendance only. A certificate of completion is NOT equitable to a diploma.

Q: Am I able to get into a community college, college, or university with a Certificate of Completion?
A: Most community colleges, colleges, universities, and technical schools require a high school diploma for admission. Because a certificate of completion is NOT equivalent to a diploma or GED, you are NOT able to gain admission to most community colleges, colleges, universities, or technical schools.
