1) View the attached videos as a review with complex sentences and how complex sentences are properly punctuated.
2) Directions: Punctuate the sentences (#1-10 by looking at the clauses and determining whether they need a comma or not. In addition, identify the independent and dependent clauses in the complex sentences by completing the following steps: AN EXAMPLE HAS BEEN DONE FOR YOU!
KEY:
If the clause is independent, change the text to the PURPLE
If the clause is dependent, change the text to the GREEN
If the complex sentence needs a comma, type the comma in RED.
If the complex sentence does not need a comma, leave the sentence alone.

* Use the attached Subordinating Conjunctions Slide as a review to help you determine which part of the complex sentence is the dependent clause.

Simple and Compound Sentences With Proper Punctuation Exercise

1) View the attached videos as a review with simple and compound sentences and how compound sentences are properly punctuated.
2) Directions: On the attached document, punctuate the following sentences by looking at how the clauses are connected. Determine if the sentences are simple or compound by doing the following:
KEY:
If it is a simple sentence type, “S” on the line in PURPLE.
If it is a compound sentence type “CD” on the line in GREEN.
If the sentence needs a comma, type the comma in RED.
If the sentence needs a semicolon, type the semi-colon in BLUE.
* Use the attached Coordinating Conjunctions Slide as a review of the FANBOYS with meanings and examples.

Today is National Student-Athlete Day (NSAD)! It is observed annually on April 6th and provides an opportunity to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of student-athletes. This day celebrates the student athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. Why do you think student athletes might be important in the school and/or in the community?

Directions: Respond to in paragraph format on the attached PowerPoint slide. (4-5 sentences) Provide details and examples to support why you think student athletes might be important in the school and/or in the community. Don't forget to pull keywords from the prompt when responding to the question. Try to include various sentence structures such as compound and complex sentences to support your writing. Lastly, check over writing for correct grammar and punctuation.
