FAMU DRS + TCC Dual Enrollment Program Overview
FAMU Developmental Research School scholars enrolled in the FAMU DRS Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Enrollment Program have the opportunity to enroll in and take courses in specific CTE programs at Tallahassee Community College. All students participating in the FAMU DRS + TCC CTE Dual Enrollment program must agree to follow a specified program of study designed to ensure students earn relevant industry certification and leading the the attainment of an Associate of Science (A. S.) degree in selected TCC CTE programs.
*This program focuses strictly on career and technical dual enrollment programs (career dual enrollment programs) and is not the same as the FAMU DRS + FAMU Dual Enrollment program.
Eligibility Requirements Overview
In order to be eligible to join the FAMU DRS + TCC CTE Dual Enrollment program, a scholar has to show that he/she/they is/are able to perform the rigors of college-level work. Students wishing to enroll in college credit academic courses have to meet minimum eligibility requirements. In addition to their high school GPA, Florida students need test scores to demonstrate they are ready for college-level work. Students can take the PERT, SAT or ACT tests to establish college readiness. There are also alternative scores which may be used to establish college readiness. The tests scores submitted for entry into the Dual Enrollment program cannot be older than two years.
*For the Early Admission Program, the unweighted cumulative high school GPA has to be at least 3.5. Please ensure you understand the implications of the Early Admission Program prior to applying for it.
Enrollment Overview
- Scholars may ONLY enroll in courses following the selected and approved Program of Study.
- Scholars may enroll in up to 11 credit hours per semester.
- Scholars will work with guidance to determine enrollment schedules (consideration must be given to the scheduling of required FAMU DRS courses).
- Students may enroll in programs during part-time/half-day blocks.
- Morning Session: Courses must be scheduled between 8:00 am - 11:45 am
- Afternoon Session: Courses must e scheduled between 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
- Full-time participation is restricted and only available for 11th and 12th grade scholars who meet certain requirements. Full-time participation must be applied for and will be considered on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of the FAMU DRS administration and Director of Guidance. Scholars may not enroll into TCC full-time unless special permission has been specifically granted or the student has been approved for Early Admissions.
- FAMU DRS will NOT be responsible for any financial commitments entered into by any student/parent/guardian outside of this process and without the express authorization of district administration. Nor will FAMU DRS be responsible for any financial commitments entered into by ay student/parent/guardian who enrolls or registers on their own.
- Early Admissions is available at Tallahassee Community College for students enrolled in the 12th grade, have a minimum 3.5 unweighted grade point average, and meet minimum score requirements. Early admission students are allowed a minimum of 12 credit hours and a maximum of 15 credit hours each semester. Special permission is required each semester for the early admission program.
Due to the limited space available and the program requirements and expectations, potential student participants will go through a specified application and selection process. Please be reminded, meeting minimum program admission/enrollment requirements does not guarantee program admission, selection, or enrollment. Applicants and their parent(s)/guardian(s) will be notified about acceptance through the e-mail provided in their application. - Grade Point Average: 3.0 unweighted GPA
- Grade Level: Grades 10-12 (Scholar must be classified as being in either Grade 10, 11, or 12 at time of admission.)
- Credits Earned: Scholar must have earned at least 11 high school credits prior to admission.
- Test Score Requirements: Scholars may meet score requirements using PERT, ACT, and SAT scores (scores must be earned within two years of admission). Additional, alternate ways of qualification (PSAT, FSA, EOC, Coursework, etc.) and the specific PERT, ACT, and SAT scores needed are outlined in the FAMU DRS Career and Technical Education Dual Enrollment Student Handbook.
