Superintendent's Corner-January 2020
Greetings Baby Rattler Family,
The beginning of the Spring semester is upon us and, with that comes warmer temperatures, heightened anxiousness for the end of the school year, and testing season. State testing will consume some of our days ahead, but our priority will be preparing our students for success. Although we all may have opinions about testing, we must concede it has its place.
At the start of the summer I spoke about our work being done in excellence. I have refrained from using “perfect” as perfection does not allow for error or the opportunity for growth, and we should always strive for growth to better serve our students.
The leadership development of our staff and students is also crucial. We recognize, while adults are charged to lead and propel the district forward, our students have a role as part of that leadership. They have incredible ideas and insight that can help us become more successful in our daily endeavors. They, too, want our district to grow and improve, and they are aware of their needs as students and community members.
I have prioritized three area of focus for our district: common expectations, how we organize ourselves and utilize time, and best instructional practices. If we succeed in these three things, we will better serve our students.
We are in an era of change. As we work towards the future, we cannot become complacent or the evolution of our district will be stunted. We will continue to seek input and support from our community, staff and students. As we address the needs of our students, we will ensure FAMU DRS is an innovative place to learn and will be recognized as a high-performing district in Tallahassee.
I look forward to our continued collaboration and I wish each of you a prosperous new year!
Onward to excellence,
Micheal D. Johnson
