GAINING EARLY AWARENESS for UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS (GEAR-UP)
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a six-year
discretionary grant that supports early college awareness and preparation activities for low-income students in middle and high school. It is specifically designed to help middle and high school students handle more rigorous and advanced coursework to better prepare them for college. The grant also includes a large parent and student awareness component that explains the college experience and clarifies college academic and financial requirements.
The GEAR UP Program includes strong parental involvement, student/parent awareness, dedicated guidance at the school level and state financial assistance to complete secondary and postsecondary education.
The GEAR UP program is built on three broad college access components:
- Student Achievement
- Student Attainment
- Parental Involvement
The primary goal of GEAR UP in Florida is to ensure that students are prepared to succeed in postsecondary education.

SpringBoard
SpringBoard is a unique, comprehensive program that enables students to build the skills and understanding they need for success in AP courses and college-level work without remediation. This powerful program provides rigorous English and mathematics lessons for all students in grades 6-12. SpringBoard courses is based on the renowned College Board Standards for College Success and provides students with the opportunity to continue making significant achievement gains while preparing for more advanced studies.
