» High School Dean of Students Supplemental Position

The High School Dean of Students supports the Secondary School Principal in providing for the smooth functioning of all programs in the High School, helping to assure the academic and social progress of the students, maintaining good community relations, advising the Secondary School Principal on matters concerning the High School, and representing the Principal as requested. The High School Dean of Students reports directly to the Principal of the Secondary School. 

The High School Dean of Students is responsible for the safety and well-being of High School students, for supporting excellence in co-curricular programs, for assisting with faculty professional development, for participating in the admission process, for participating in the planning and administering of the High School budget, and for assuring smooth relationships with the school community -students, parents, faculty, staff, and the University. 

The Dean of Students will meet regularly with the High School faculty, with the Principal, academic and administrative leadership, and the Parents' Association as necessary. 

Essential functions include: 

  • Participate in the enrollment and registration processes. 
  • Assist in the implementation of effective attendance policies and procedures. 
  • Lead the disciplinary process; dealing with the violation of school rules in a consistent and timely fashion, to ensure proper and fair discipline in the High School. 
  • Conduct an annual revision of the student handbook. 
  • Establish a working relationship with the Middle School to establish consistent disciplinary and training policies within the two schools. 
  • Work with the Principal to educate the faculty on the shared nature of responsibilities, including discipline, attendance, and supervision. 
  • Monitor the attendance of all students. 
  • Work with the principal to develop and coordinate special activities that foster student leadership and develop a sense of community responsibility. 
  • Serve as the point person for the student referral system working with the Guidance Department to identify at-risk students and to implement appropriate interventions. 
  • Aid in the development of an orientation program, and provide support for new students, including freshmen. 
  • Work with student groups to support the school’s initiatives. 
  • Oversee and approve all student fundraising proposals. 

Education: A master's degree in educational leadership or a related field is required.  10-years of experience at the High School level may be substituted for the degree.

Experience: At least 3 years of school leadership experience, preferably at the high school level required. Leadership experience includes, but is not limited to department chair, team leader and coach, specialist or generalist positions.

Salary: Base salary with supplement not to exceed $45,000.
