PTA Mission
The overall purpose of FAMU DRS PTA is to create a better school and a better educational experience for our children.

PTA Membership
Membership is available to all FAMU DRS Community stake holders. FAMU DRS PTA is a member of the National Parent Teacher Association and the Florida National Parent Teacher Association. The Local Unit ID is 02632650. The annual $10 membership fee includes the state and national fee of $3.75 per member. Each PTA member gets a PTA card, which accesses membership discount benefits. PTA Programs & Fundraising
The primary objective of the FAMU DRS is to raise funds to assist with budget shortfalls. In the past FAMU DRS PTA provided funds for the beautiful benches in the FAMU DRS courtyard, meals for various events, gift cards to FAMU DRS clubs and athletic teams, gift cards to educational departments, and recognition and awards programs to name a few. There is much more to do. In addition to purchasing more benches and helping school programs, the FAMU DRS PTA would like to implement an annual scholarship for graduating seniors and send members to the annual state and national PTA conventions to assist with efforts of improving our PTA unit.
Fundraisers include:
500 for $100 Campaign: This campaign seeks donations primarily from FAMU High Alumni, family and friends. Go to the donate button and indicate “500 for $100” campaign. All donations are tax deductible. FAMU DRS PTA is a 501c3 organization.
FAMU DRS PTA Oratorical Contest and Pageant: Students have the opportunity to participate in an oratorical contest and pageant. Contestants write and present an essay, as well as creatively raise funds for the PTA. The contest is open to all FAMU DRS Students. Winners will be awarded titles: Little Mr. and Miss, Junior Mr. and Miss or Mr. and Miss FAMU DRS PTA.
Brusters Blue Pops- Italian Ice Treats, very refreshing on a hot Florida afternoon. 50% of cost goes to PTA.
Chuck E. Cheese Family Night- Family fun for all. A percentage of all sales from the evening goes to PTA.
EBATES: Provide us your email address for a referral [email protected] When you sign-up for Ebate via the referral link PTA gets paid $5. When you make purchases via Ebates you make money. You can have your funds paid to you or if you are feeling charitable elect to have your proceeds deposited into the PTA PayPal account or have the check made out to FAMU DRS PTA.
After school snack store: Purchase snacks afterschool at the concession window in the gym.
Catalog Sales: Expect catalogs to come home just after school begins.
Fish Fry: Baby rattlers love FAMU DRS football with hot fish, French fries and a green apple or orange soda.
Bake Sale and cakewalk: Red velvet cupcakes, doughnuts, rice krispy treats, pound cake, cookies and more. Donate your favorite baked good to help our school.

Position Descriptions
President The president shall preside over meetings of the organization and executive board, serve as the primary contact for the principal, represent the organization at meetings outside the organization, serve as an ex officio member of all committees except the nominating committee, and coordinate the work of all the officers and committees so that the purpose of the organization is served.
Secondary Vice-President The vice president shall assist the president and carry out the president’s duties in his or her absence or inability to serve.
Elementary School Vice-President The elementary vice-president shall assist the president and carry out the president’s duties in his or her absence or inability to serve if high/middle school vice-president is not available.
Treasurer The treasurer shall receive all funds of the organization, keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and pay out funds in accordance with the approval of the executive board. He or she will present a financial statement at every meeting and at other times of the year when requested by the executive board, and make a full report at the end of the year.
Secretary The secretary shall keep all records of the organization, take and record minutes, prepare the agenda, handle correspondence, and send notices of meetings to the membership. The secretary also keeps a copy of the minutes book, bylaws, rules, membership list, and any other necessary supplies, and brings them to meetings.
FAMU DRS PTA is Going Green
Because of the amount of paper we use that eventually gets thrown away, we are starting an effort this year to dramatically reduce our paper usage. This will help our environment AND reduce our office expenses. Rather than send home fliers, we will send emails and post information on our web site. Please help us by sending us your email address. If you already receive our emails, then you don't need to do anything. If you are new to our schools, or have not received our emails, please email us at [email protected]. Your name will be added to our distribution list. If you do not have access to email, we will continue to send home fliers. Please give us your child's name and teacher when you join the PTA, and any PTA information will go home with your child. Also, our PTA web site – http://www.famudrs.org/pta.php - is a great resource.
Our parent group is certainly about more than bake sales! We're about men and women working together toward a common goal. That goal, simply stated, is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, and support staff can do their best work – and so can our children. There is so much more that can be done and we need your help.
